Greetings:

I wanted to briefly respond to this question.

In Casting a Circle -- Before you do, think about WHY you are doing it. Are you doing it to contain energy or are you doing it as a protective barrier against outside influence or both?

Your answer to this should be BOTH. If you lay a piece of cord on the floor and envision it as your barrier, both inner and outer, and hold that vision then a Barrier it will be. You can see it, touch it, and your subconscious can perceive it. Something to remember in this method is, if you use the cord for this purpose, always use the cord for this purpose. Why? Because after several uses it will build up magickal energy and will begin to work more for you in allowing more energy within to grow. Plus it will also add a bit of the magick already stored within it, to the current magick or worship you are performing.

If you choose the Thrice around method with the Elements, this is more traditional and also quite effective. What you are accomplishing with this method is a balancing of the elemental energies within the Circle so that when you do your Quarter Calls to the directions and elements they will be more sympathetic in lending their energies to your workings. Whichever way you choose, try each out a couple of times, take note of the feel of each method, record the workings results and any other impressions. And then use the method that lends the most to your workings.
